Linear Allowance

Linear Allowance is a multiplier that reflects the extra material anticipated for certain features. For all point features, the default Linear Allowance value is 1.0; for all span features, the default value is set to the system default for spans (for example, 1.10). The Linear Allowance can be changed to meet design requirements. For more information about the Linear Allowance property, see Properties of Assigned Units.

Example (Span Unit)

Calculations for the cost of a linear unit assigned to a span feature take into account the length of the span. In this example, the sample unit 0660 is made up of one material item, 0046157. The cost of the material is $0.43 per linear foot; therefore, the Material Cost value of the sample compatible unit is $0.43.

If the unit 0660 is assigned to a span of 125 feet and the Linear Allowance setting is 1.10, the Material Cost value is calculated as follows:

$0.43 (Material Cost of unit) × 125 (Quantity-i.e., span length) × 1.10 (Linear Allowance) = $59.125 = $59.13*

*Calculations are rounded to the nearest cent.
